Musical Muster Tour

The Nevine String Quartet began its 2005 activities in April, with schools concerts in the South Island. These were part of the NZSO Education Programme, and organised in conjunction with the NZSO's Musical Muster Tour, all of it sponsored by Wrightson.

We travelled through some of the most beautiful countryside of New Zealand and visited Tapawera Area School, St. Canice's in Westport, and Ashburton College. Everywhere we encountered great school students, and our work was well received.

This education initiative is a real pleasure for all of us. The teachers are supportive, the young people are interested and ask a lot of questions, and we enjoy coming to new places. We try to present classical music in a way that makes it come alive for the students. There are stories and pictures from the composers' lives and times. We explore the structure and themes of one of the works that we play, in a way that suits the age and interest level of the students concerned. The students have many opportunities to ask questions or make comments. If the feedback we get from student's comments is anything to go by, we do a good job.

On Sunday August 7th 2005 we played for the Wellington Chamber Music Society at 3pm in the Ilott Concert Chamber of the Wellington Festival and Convention Centre.
